FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How often do I need to clean my seamless gutters?
At Gutting Edge, we recommend servicing your gutters at least once every 12 months. Many of our customers opt for a 6-month service to prevent potential issues. Regular maintenance helps avoid problems with home insurance claims and ensures your gutters function properly, protecting your home from water damage.
Do I need to wait the entire day?
No, you don’t need to be home when we come as long as we have access to your gutters. For free inspections or quotes, we need to contact you to confirm the issue and cost. If you're happy with the quote, we can complete the work in your absence and email you an invoice once done.
Can snow and ice damage seamless gutters?
Ice and snow can damage gutters by causing them to bend, warp, or pull away from the home due to the pressure from expanding ice and melting snow. This can lead to weakened joints, leaks, and potential gutter failure. Regular gutter maintenance and snow removal, along with professional inspections before winter, can help prevent such damage.
Is it normal for seamless gutters to overflow in heavy rain?
Overflowing gutters during heavy rain may indicate an inadequate or poorly installed guttering system. Insufficient downpipes can cause rainwater to overflow, while more downpipes improve drainage. Larger gutter profiles, like Ogee or deep flow, hold more water and help prevent overflow, which is increasingly important given modern heavy rainfall patterns.
What is the most common problem with seamless gutters?
The most common problems with seamless gutters are:
- Blocked gutters, outlets and downpipes
- Leaking gutter joints
- Perished joint seals
- Insufficient gutter capacity
- Poor drainage due to gutter alignment
- Not enough downpipes installed
- Gutter cut too short
- Lack of gutter supports installed
- Gutter joints not secured to the fascia board
- Old narrow gutter joints not allowing sufficient expansion
Can leaking seamless gutters be repaired?
Leaking gutters can often be repaired successfully. The most common gutter problem is a leaking gutter joint. Gutter joints can usually be repaired by either replacing the joint, replacing the seals, or by completing a expert repair using a low-modulus, waterproof sealant that remains flexible when fully cured.
